Make a difference by donating sports equipment and clothing
Blake Miller, Senior at Palmer Trinity School who has chaired the Patriot Outreach program for the past five years. Miller coordinates the organization’s campaign in Miami-Dade County to collect used—but still functional—sports equipment, clothing, and sneakers that are sorted, packaged, and shipped to the Dominican Republic.
These items are then distributed to poor children in the Higüey and Punta Cana regions of the country.
Recycled gear and clothing gives young people in the Dominican Republic the opportunity to do athletics, much like the boys and girls do here in South Florida.
Patriot Outreach members have run the annual campaign for ten consecutive years and have collected more than 70,000 sports gear, uniforms, shoes and related gear. This year, the Patriot Outreach Council is made up of students from several of our local high schools. In addition to Miller, the board members are: Keaton Zargham, Ryan Booth, and Jett Caplin of Palmetto High School; Gio Soto from Gulliver Secondary School, and TJ North from Westminster Christian School and Cole Hebble from Palmer Trinity Secondary School.
This year the drop off location is at Suniland Park, 12855 S. Dixie Hwy. At Pinecrest. Collection hours are Monday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., now through April 30. In front of the park office, there is a drop box where you can leave your donations.
